well the last time
I went to winding creek it didn't turn out so cool! but this one did! I
loaded up my bike after spending two days figuring out that both the
starter and the battery were bad, and then replacing them! I will give you
a little piece of that here! the first thing I did was short across the
starter solenoid just a click click then I took it the cover off and check
the washer no it is good! put it back together now for the starter,
first I had to take the seat off then take the battery out! then take the
rear wheel off then the inner finder out then loosen the oil tank! now you
can take the primary cover off so you can reach the bolt on the end of the
shaft! then take out the two bolts on the starter, now if you have
done this before you will know there is a sleeve you can slide off the
shaft and then wiggle the starter out under the finder! if
not you will have to do a lot more work to work it out around the finder
and oil tank! I figured this out after I did it the hard way! from there I
put it on the bench and hooked it up to a battery! the damn thing spun so
im thinking something else is wrong since if you remember from my last
story I had it hooked up to car batt with it in and no luck
turning it over! so I put it back in bike and decided to hook it from the
car directly to the starter to check it!
no since paying for a starter if that isnt it!

ok so I get it
hooked direct and click click! I see the gear go out and stick in teeth
but it wont turn over! now I used some pretty strong language about now!
ok take it all apart again! take it to the shop and have them test it!
under a load and nothing! check the battery under a load and it is bad
too! so I spent just under $400 on parts and then go home to put it all
together! I have learned about the sleeve by now but there is more to
learn! I get the whole thing put together but notice the gear is engaged
all the time! I take it apart and find a snap ring inside that makes it
only fit one way! ok flip the thing over and put it all back together and
this time it starts right up! there is about 6 hours of frustration in
this process but hey I learned some shit while doing it! next time it will
only take me about 3 hrs to change it out!

Well so much for the hassle of changing the starter! now on
to the ride to winding creek! it was a nice warm day not quite in
the high 90s yet! headed down I 35 after getting gas enjoying the ride! I
got out of house in time to miss some of the traffic so my trip down I 35
was smooth then east on I 40 caught a little bit of the mess at tinker but
not too bad! got to highway 102 south and headed toward pink! I got to
highway 9 and turned back to the right for the last one mile when I got to
the corner to go south to the camp ground there was several vehichles on
the side of the road
